HALLOWEEN is right around the corner and Dunster Castle in West Somerset is getting into the spirit.

With over 1,000 years of history the castle is said to have had its fair share of spooky encounters and has been identified as one of the most haunted places in Somerset.

On Monday, October 29 and Thursday, November 1 the spooks become restless and emerge for After Dark: Family Fright Night.

This annual event has grown from under 600 visitors in 2016 to a spook-tacular success in 2017, when more than 2000 brave souls turned up to try the trail.

Sarah Allen, assistant visitor experience manager said: "Running from 6.30pm to 9pm (last entry 8pm), those brave enough to step into the darkness follow an eerily lit route around the grounds not knowing what might be waiting for them in the dark.

“After Dark is fantastic fun, the screams echo around the gardens.

"Fun and thrills are assured for all those who dare enter."

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £2 for children.

The route isn’t suitable for wheels and only assistance dogs are able to accompany guests on the route.

If you are not quite feeling brave enough to take on the After Dark experience, Dunster Castle has a range of other spooky goings on throughout half term including Victorian Monster Hunters, Creepy Critters with Exmoor Zoo, Gothic Falconry and the Dunster School of Magic Halloween Trail.

Normal admission applies and there is additional cost of £2.50 for the trail.
