THOUSANDS of Taunton residents gathered in Vivary Park to remember those who gave their lives.

The ceremony took place in the park after a procession marched from St Mary Magdalene Church.

This year's event was well attended as Taunton residents gathered to mark 100 years since the end of the First World War.

The parade of veterans, scouts, guides and cadets went past the mayoral party stood on the steps on the Old Municipal Buildings.

The dignitaries then joined a host of military representatives at Vivary Park.

The moving ceremony took place while prayers were read and songs were sung.

A selection of wreaths were laid at the war memorial by people including MP Rebecca Pow, leader of Somerset County Council David Fothergill, and TDBC CEO Penny James.
