IT'S been a bumper week for a cancer charity, with more than £7,000 handed over in donations.
The largest gift for the Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE) was £2,751.53 from Long Sutton Golf Club from various fundraising events after SURE was nominated as the ladies captain's charity of the year.
Not far behind was Tim Smith, who collected £2,093.75 from a raffle and fun canal walk to support the charity, which buys equipment for the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital.
There was £861.25 from Emma Martin and Adele, who ran the Deane DLO Taunton 10k in support of their friend Heidi Waddon, and £649.50 from Lyn Keitch from a tea and cake afternoon.
Cynthia Stevens donated £120 in lieu of payment to Catherine Cowling, who did some cooking for Cynthia's daughter's wedding, a Sunday service at St George's Church, Wilton, in Taunton, raised £246.31, and Alcombe Methodist Church donated £80.
A total of £31 from Elaine Tizzard came from the sale of knitted teddies, while Mrs S. Noakes gave £50 in memory of Keith Greedy, "a loving partner, father, uncle, brother and granddad".
Taunton Moose Ladies Circle raised £54.20 in 5p coins and there was £12 in 5ps from the Monday Club, Comeytrowe, Galmington.
The Beacon Centre collected £112.90, mainly in 5ps, taking the weekly total to £7,062.44 and the overall total since SURE linked up with the County Gazette to £825,096.31.
