STUDENTS have been warned to be vigilant after a boy was approached by a stranger on his way to school this morning.
The incident involving the youngster walking to Heathfield Community School took place near the canal at Swingbridge, Bathpool.
The school, in Monkton Heathfield, has posted details on Facebook, saying the student was approached by a man in a car.
It added: "Sensibly, the boy did not go with the man.
"The police are aware of this safeguarding incident and are investigating."
The post goes on to advise its students to be vigilant on their way to and from school.
It adds: "Be aware of safeguarding procedures, like staying in groups, staying on public roads (not shortcuts) and seeking support from a trusted adult if you need it.
"Do not get into any unknown vehicles and contact the police immediately if you encounter anything suspicious."
It appeals to parents to "reiterate" the message to students at home.
