WELLINGTON is set to get into the festive spirit this weekend.

The town's Christmas lights will be switched on during an event on Saturday, November 24.

The High Street will be closed to traffic from 4pm onwards while a host of activities take place.

Town council clerk, Greg Dyke, said: "Father Christmas will be arriving to take his place in his Grotto, escorted by the Wellington Majorettes.

"The majorettes will give their usual excellent Christmas themed display.

This will be followed by a display of Bollywood Dancing by Avtar Panesar and his Bollywood dancers who will be providing plenty of opportunities to have a go yourselves.

"Music and entertainment on the trailer will be provided by the award winning Wellington Pantomime Society.

"Once again, Langford Lakes has donated a splendid Christmas Tree for the town centre and the massed choir of Beech Grove School will be leading the carol singing. This will herald the start of the Christmas sheep competition organised by Churches Together and Reminiscence Learning’s Archie has promised to make an appearance. Returning this year is the ever popular children's roundabout which is being provided free of charge for all the children."
