FOLLOWING a period of 'commissioning', the fantastic new lights on Bridgwater Town Bridge will be ‘officially’ opened during the Snowflakes event this Friday, November 23.

There will be a special design is being prepared for the opening event which will take place at 6.45pm on East Quay.

There are 25 plus lighting designs and the lights come on automatically at about 10 minutes before sunset each night and there are bespoke designs for each season and for special occasions, including carnival, Christmas and New Year.

The lighting of the town bridge is one project in the Bridgwater Town Centre Support Scheme, which is funded from EDF Energy’s Community Impact Mitigation Fund money through the bid on behalf of Bridgwater Town Council, Sedgemoor District Council and Bridgwater Town Team.

The lights are owned and will be maintained by Bridgwater Town Council. The lighting project was also supported by the Environment Agency and Somerset County Council.

The Snowflakes event features a packed afternoon of events and entertainment, including extended shopping hours and street food stalls, before the Christmas lights will be switched on at 6pm.

This will be followed by a spectacular squibbing display at 7pm.
