A SCHOOL has hit out against vandals who have badly damaged the playing field.

Staff and pupils at Dulverton Junior School say they are 'disappointed' to see the damage, and costs have no yet been calculated to fix it.

The headteacher says someone took a 'joy ride' through the field overnight on November 21. The vehicle has left large deep muddy circles in the grass.

Carly Hatch, headteacher, said: "When you do that much damage you have to act to save the grass. We have had to call in an external grounds maintenance company who will likely have to re-seed it. We are yet to determine what repairs to the field will cost."

While the school has had minor incidents with vandalism in the past, Mrs Hatch said the damage to the field is really 'disappointing'.

"I've never seen anything to this extent. People have always been very respectful and enjoyed the grounds," she added.

Pupils and staff are pleading with anyone who has information about the crime to contact the police on 101 using crime reference number 5218259719.
