A MAN was given a shock after being woken by an intruder while he slept on his sofa at his home in West Somerset.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the aggravated burglary which happened at the man's home in Townsend, Williton at around 11.55pm on Friday, November 16.

The victim, aged in his 60's, was then assaulted by the offender who subsequently left the house with a small amount of cash in the direction of Long Street.

A spokesman at Avon and Somerset Police said: "Specialist crime scene investigators have examined the property while we’ve also carried out house to house enquiries.

"The intruder is described as being of very slim build with a spotty complexion and was wearing a green hoody and a black woollen scarf.

DC Caroline Killer said: “This was a disturbing and unsettling incident for the victim who thankfully only sustained cuts and bruises."
