A BRIDGWATER teenager has made it to the final of a national poetry competition, being named as one of five overall finalists out of 4,000 entries.

Eryn Fox, 14, attends the Bridgwater College Academy and wrote her poem as part of an English lesson which was entered into the Young Writers competition.

She has already had a certificate from the organisation praising her excellent writing and informing her that her poem would appear in the Young Writers’ latest anthology.

Eryn proud mum Julie said: “We hadn’t actually realised there was a competition attached until we received an email out of the blue earlier this month saying Eryn’s poem had been shortlisted. We were bowled over and Eryn was so excited.”

The first prize is an iPad with four runners-up receiving Kindle Fire HDs.

Julie added: “Eryn loves to write poetry and has written a couple of plays for fun with friends, but her real talent lies in her art, which she creates on paper and digitally.

“She currently aspires to work in animation and video games, but also enjoys acting in her free time and is a member of the McMillan Youth Theatre Company.”

A video of Eryn reading her poem ‘What Is Sanity?’, along with the other finalists entries, can be found by visiting youngwriters.co.uk/competitions.

Public voting closes on Friday, December 7.
