A BRIDGWATER company has raised more than £1,000 to help an employee after he was diagnosed with incurable cancer earlier this year.

James Tobias Ltd, based on Wylds Road this week has a company bake-off to help raise further funds in aid of Mike Kitch, 56, who has been with the company for 16 years.

Today, (Tuesday, December 4) Mike was one of the guest judges of more than 13 delicious cakes concocted by the staff at the storage wall supplier.

"It is really nice, a bit overwhelming really," Mike said. "Everyone has been so kind, I have a worked a few places and never known such a friendly bunch."

Mike, who worked at the company in customer care until the severity of his illness came to light, is currently undergoing chemotherapy but says he is taking each day as it comes.

"I decided when I got the diagnosis that I would accept it and just take each day as it comes and enjoy life as much as possible," he added.

The bake-off was organised by head of operations Angela Greenway and Olivia Murray, and the company has already undertaken an auction of sporting memorabilia.

"Mike is an important part of our team and we wanted to do something to show our appreciation for him," Mrs Greenway said.

"We had a fantastic number of cakes made, everyone has contributed including warehouse and office staff."
