Teacher trip

A MATHS teacher from a Taunton secondary school has been selected to take part in an exchange.

Becky Murphy, form The Castle School, is one of 16 to be chosen to exchange with teachers from Shanghai.

The Castle School has been partnered with The Jurassic Maths Hub.

The purpose of the exchange is to develop and understand different approaches to teaching maths.

This is one part of the Teaching for Mastery Programme, run by the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) in conjunction with the Maths Hubs Programme, and funded by the DfE.

Mrs Murphy said: "I feel very privileged to have been selected by The Jurassic Maths Hub to take part in this exchange.

"It is an amazing opportunity to observe and learn from a system that boasts outstanding mathematics results for students and to bring back knowledge to share with colleagues in the South West."

There will be a return visit of the Shanghai teachers to The Castle School. During this time, there will be opportunities for other colleagues from both Castle and other schools in the area to observe Mastery lessons being taught by the Shanghai teachers. This will take place on in January.
