THE chief executive of a beloved Wellington charity has been recognised with an award.

Fiona Mahoney, from dementia awareness charity Reminiscence Learning, has won the care innovator category at the South West Great British Care Awards.

She was given the accolade for her work in creating the intergenerational forest school project.

Emma Green, charity manager, said: "Fiona developed a partnership with Otterhead Forest School, who support children age 7-16, with social, emotional and mental health needs, to provide a solution for actively engaging with individuals with younger onset dementia, in an outdoor environment.

"The project was set up after identifying an increasing number of younger people accessing our regular community programme."

The next step will be the National Great British Care Awards.

Ms Green says the team at Reminiscence Learning have 'everything crossed' for more success for Fiona in March 2019.
