A POP-up eco supermarket will spring up in Somerset in the new year - and be opened by a TV star.

Hermione Norris, of Spooks and Cold Feet fame, is due to open the venture at Odcombe Village Hall, near Yeovil, on Saturday, February 2.

Organisers say the shop will help eco-minded residents battle your plastic and stick to green-centred new year resolutions.

The shop will be open between 9am and noon, with Hermione due to cut the ribbon at 9am, and will run on the first Saturday of each month thereafter, selling goods including bakery, dairy, butchers, fruit and vegetables, store cupboard, washing and laundry products, personal care, pet care, fresh flowers, stationery, gifts and local cider.

"A recycling area will take care of items not taken at the kerbside, so bring beauty and dental packaging, bottle lids, pump and trigger sprays, biscuit and crisps wrappers," a spokesperson said.

"There will be an area featuring repair experts, menders and knife sharpening.

"The cafe aims to inspire you with menu ideas using market goodies and revive you with a great Fair Trade cup of tea or coffee.

"Eco shopping is an experience - be a part of the Eco Community and work out what suits your family and budget."

There will also be themed workshops running throughout the year, the spokesperson added.
