A COMMUNITY group has come together to create a calendar to raise funds for the Wellington Monument.

The Facebook group Wellington Somerset Community Group, which brings together more than 3,000 people, wanted to do something to aid the restoration fund for the National Trust.

The group’s leaders Mandy McCarter and Lianne Box ran a photographer competition online and, once they saw the quality of photos being entered, they decided to enlist the help of trust’s community fundraising officer Emma Jones to pick 12 photos which would be used to create a calendar.

Ms McCarter said: “We had such an amazing response to the competition, we decided to get Steve Coles and Emma Jones to judge the best 12 to make a calendar.

“We are thrilled this has been such a success. We would like to thank all of our photo entrants and our amazing sponsors for their help in producing this calendar.”

The calendar was created with the help of a number of sponsors from throughout the town.

The sponsors were: Wellington Motors, Carly Press, Tim Potter Butchers, Sprague Butchers and The Vintage Inn.

The charity calendar features 12 beautiful photos from around the town, including of the monument and Wellington Park.

There’s also a special page dedicated to a well-loved Wellington man.The last page features a tribute to Darren Windsor, known as Speedy, who passed away this year.

Emma Jones, community fundraiser, said: “It’s so excited for so many people involved.

“The photos are stunning and there’s a good range of them.

“A big thanks goes to all the sponsors, and thanks to Mandy and Liane for all their hard work and enthusiasm.”

Calendars can be purchased for £5 from a range of places including Rockwell Green Post Office, Beech Hill Store, Odettes Tea Rooms and The One Stop at Tonedale.
