AN ELDERLY man accused of stabbing a 22-year-old has been banned from returning to his home, a court has ruled.

Frederick Day, of Church Close, Stoke St Gregory, appeared before Taunton Magistrates' Court today (January 11) in relation to an incident which took place outside his home on January 9.

The 72-year-old has been charged with wounding with intent to cause harm.

Emergency services were called to the cul-de-sac at around 10.30pm after a next-door neighbour called the police.

The victim, 22-year-old man Brandon Luther, was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital after the alleged attack on Tuesday night.

Day, who was dressed in a grey t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms, was represented by solicitor Ed Boyce.

He stood in the dock, visibly shaking, before magistrates Dr Peter Reed and Mrs McInerney.

The magistrates said the case was too serious to be heard by them, and must instead be sent to Taunton Crown Court.

While he made no formal plea, prosecution said he had made 'various admissions' relating to 'parking issues'.

Day was granted bail, with a number of conditions.

Magistrates said he must not return to Stoke St Gregory, except for one time when he is allowed to return alongside a police officer to collect his belongings.

He must also not contact Mr Luther, or Hannah, Susan or Matthew Chandler.

The case was adjourned until February 8 to Taunton Crown Court.
