MORE than 100 people are to be treated to a free slap up fish and chip lunch on Friday.

Anyone over 60 in Creech St Michael will be able to tuck in at the event in the village hall.

Mobile caterer Layz Ricks will dish up the food, along with puddings and drinks served by volunteers and school ambassadors from Creech St Michael School.

Afterwards, the guests will settle down to a game of bingo, with Somerset County Council leader Cllr David Fothergill calling the numbers.

It is the third year running a free lunch has been laid on for locals and is funded by the proceeds of Creech Party in the Park.

The annual family friendly community event is now in its seventh year and consists of a daytime fete and nighttime music festival.

A spokesman for the organising committee said: "We are really pleased that Creech Party in the Park continues to be a successful event which allows us to put proceeds back into the village.

"We are delighted that the school children are once again helping out as its fantastic to see the different generations coming together."

Creech Party in the Park has also donated funds to the village primary school, pre-school and Baptist church for children’s clubs.

It has also provided park benches, phone box refurbishment and defibrillator and organised a village clean-up day.

This year's fun, organised by volunteers and the parish council, is on Saturday, July 6.
