A NEW primary school in Taunton is searching for a headteacher while it announces plans to extend its year group offering.

The new Nerrols Primary School, which is currently being built, is set to open in September 2019.

After receiving lots of interest for its reception year group, options are now being explored to add Year 1 and 2. There will also be 28 places for children at the new nursery on site.

But the school is in need of leadership, with a new headteacher needing to be appointed in February this year to start the academic year in September.

The new leader will take over from interim executive headteacher Mike Snowden, who is also headteacher of North Town School in Taunton.

Mr Snowden said: “We are looking for an inspiring education leader who understands the unique circumstances of setting up a new school.

"This is an opportunity to make an enduring impact on education in Taunton.

“We were so pleased to have such a good uptake for reception places and are delighted to now be in a position to speak to parents of pupils years 1 and 2 about applying later this year.

"It’s been great to have had lots of interest from parents, they are really enthused by the prospect of joining our amazing new school, so that their children can make the most of all the opportunities it will bring.

“The learning spaces are going to be ideal for structured and creative educational opportunities. The outdoor space will have room for play, sports and social interaction.

"We are also so lucky to be located next to a country park where the children can do forest school activities.

"All in all, this is an incredible opportunity for some very lucky children.”
