WALKERS on Kilve Beach had a shock after finding two suspicious items on the low water mark.

Watchet Coastguard were called out to the scene and located a third item while walking across the beach on Sunday afternoon, (January 27).

A safety cordon was put in place while the Royal Navy explosive ordinance specialists were called.

After several hours the Navy team arrived at scene and proceeded to check the three items which were identified as inert military solid shot from the target practise that took place from tanks and canons used from shore during the 1940’s.

The Royal Navy then removed them for destruction back at their base in Plymouth.

If you find anything suspicious on the coastline, record it’s location, take a photo making sure your phone is in aeroplane mode and contact HM Coastguard immediately on 999.
