Richard Huish College teacher, Samantha Desmond has been nominated for the University of Oxford Inspirational Teachers Award. Samantha, who teaches Classical Civilisation at the College has been recognised for the role she played in ‘raising student’s aspirations and fuelling their enthusiasm for their subject.’

Each year a select group of Oxford undergraduates are asked to nominate a Teacher and/or Careers Advisor whom played an important role in their application to Oxford University, whether this be encouraging a passion for learning or supporting them through the application process itself.

Samantha was nominated by former Huish student; Justin Vyvyan-Jones who now studies Classics at the University of Oxford. Nominating Samantha for her support when applying to university, Justin explained how she went the extra mile to assist with his application, helping him with his personal statement and essays and even giving up her lunch breaks to set up mock interviews.

Justin said: "Sam has boundless creativity as well as commitment, which charges her lessons with an infectious excitement and makes every single member of the class feel welcomed, inspired and able to be their best."

Richard Huish College Principal, John Abbott, said: "Samantha is an excellent colleague and this nomination is testament to her dedication and hard work. She would be a very worthy winner."
