AGENTS marketing Bridgwater’s Old Hospital on Salmon Parade are having ‘details discussions’ with interested parties.

The grade II listed building is on the market with a guide price of £2.6m and has been boarded up following a spate of vandalism late last year.

There is hope the building can be brought back into use and help regenerate that part of the town as the building has lain empty since the Bridgwater Community Hospital opened in Bower Lane in 2014.

The Old Hospital building was sold to Salmon Parade Developments Ltd for £1.6m in 2016, who obtained planning permission to convert the building into a hotel, restaurant and gym.

The building has now been put back on the market with a guide price of £2.6m and is being marketed by Lambert Smith Hapton and Alder King.

However, since going back on the market, the building has suffered at the hands of vandals who smashed a number of windows and left a lot of graffiti.

Alder King agent Andrew Maynard said: “We are currently in detailed discussions with interested parties but I am unable to disclose further details at present. Our clients undertook a substantial amount of work boarding up and securing the property following a spate of vandalism and break-ins and they continue to monitor the situation closely.”

A Sedgemoor District Council spokesman said: “Planning and regeneration council officers have had and are still having discussions with the owner of the site and he remains committed to delivering regeneration of the listed building and associated development of the site.

“We discussed anti-social behaviour and received assurances it has been dealt with and security measures taken.”
