A UNIQUE event combining the West County's love of cider and exercise is coming to town.

This is the second event on its kind to take part in Somerset so far, with Taunton hosting on Sunday, May 5.

The Ciderthon events sees participants take part in a half marathon - but stopping for a drink a few times along the way.

This year's event kicks off at Longrun Meadow ahead of a 13.14mile route.

Tickets to take part in the run will set you back £45, with 10 per cent off if booking in groups of five.

Included with your ticket is a tshirt, a medal, 13 cider tasters and a finisher pint.

Organisers said: "The half marathon takes place in Longrun Meadow in Taunton, across a closed road running route. The route will be biased towards road but multi-terrain.

Anyone is free to access our Ciderthon Village at the start/finish on Longrun Meadow for bars, music and more.

"Please be aware this is not a timed race.

"Last year was our first Ciderthon, so you can only expect a bigger, better event."

Fancy dress is encouraged for participants, but organisers urge runners to make sure they will be comfortable during the half marathon.

The route takes you through Bishops Hull, to Bradford-on-Tone, through Oake and Allerford, past Norton Fitzwarren before heading back down Silk Mills towards Longrun Meadow and the finish line.

The event organiser added: "Water will be available at every mile, but not exactly on the mile, of the run directly after the cider tasting station.

"This will be served in cardboard cups, some will be handed out by our marshals and it will be available for you to pick up from the table.

"The cider tasters will be 1/4 pint each (roughly)."

The first event took place in April 2018 around Wells.
