TWO new acts have been added to the lineup for West Somerset's biggest music festival.

The weekend, which takes place from Friday, August 23, until Sunday, August 25, already has the likes of Reverend and the Makers, Hot Chocolate and Alabama 3 lined up - but the latest announcement sees the Lightning Seeds and Sophie Ellis-Bextor added to the list.

The Liverpudlian band the Lightning Seeds, fronted by Ian Broudie, have seen success with 12 top-20 UK hits, including 'Pure', 'Change' and 'You showed me'.

Along with comedian David Baddiel, they also wrote football anthem 'Three Lions' - which you're probably familiar with after last year's World Cup success.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor will also be performing at the event. The 'Murder on the Dancefloor' singer made her first TV appearance alongside her mother Janet Ellis on BBC children's show Blue Peter.

A spokesman for Watchet Festival CIC said: "Also joining the bill in 2019 are two festival favourites that will keep Watchet Festival dancing and smiling in equal measure.

"Expect inflatable boat-based crowd surfing antics, alongside some cracking tunes, from the magnificent Barnsley based folk-parody band, the Bar-Steward Sons Of Val Doonican. Joining them are Hobo Jones & The Junkyard Dogs, aka ‘The World's Oldest And Ugliest Boy Band’ (their words not ours), who return to serve Watchet up another incredible set of skiffle-based covers, served with a heavy dose of humour on the side.

"Saturday night’s headliner is none other than Embrace, a band who need little introduction having released three Number 1 selling albums in the UK (two of which went platinum), and more than 15 Top 40 singles, including ‘All You Good Good People’, ‘Come Back To What You Know’, official England World Cup anthem, ‘World At Your Feet’, and the Chris Martin-penned ‘Gravity’.

"Sheffield’s finest dance-rock act, Reverend & The Makers will being proceedings to a close on Sunday night. Fronted as always by high-octane frontman ‘Reverend’ Jon McClure, R&TM are one of the finest live acts around, having performed at thousands of venues worldwide, including the iconic Wembley Stadium (supporting Oasis). Their most recent album, ‘Death Of A King’ charted at number 11 - their 2nd highest chart placing, proving that they are as relevant now as ever before."

Watchet LIVE Festival will once again support local charity groups including The Children’s Hospice South West, Elliot’s Touch, and the “Stand Against Speed 4 Bethany”

The Friday night headline act is still yet to be announced.

Tickets for the highly-anticipated festival are likely to sell out, as they have done in previous years, but they can be purchased from watchetfetival.co.uk.
