A MAN has been detained by police and a property remains cordoned off following reports a man was seen with a gun in Taunton.

Police were called to an address in Outer Circle just after 1.30pm on Friday, March 15 following reports of a domestic incident.

At least seven police cars were seen in the area and at least two officers were armed.

A team of six officers was witnessed entering a property carrying defensive shields and a man was later seen being led away by police.

Police have confirmed a man in his 30's was detained by officers at around 2.50pm on Friday and remains in police custody.

A property also remains cordoned off while officers carry out a search of the property and surrounding area.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "Police were called just after 1.30pm on Friday, March 15 to a report of a domestic incident at an address in Outer Circle, Taunton.

"There was a suggestion that there was a weapon involved so armed officers were deployed as part of the police response.

"A man in his 30s was detained by officers at around 2.50pm and remains in police custody. The initial cordon was reduced within an hour.

"A property remains cordoned off while officers carry out a search of the property and surrounding area.

"We understand the police presence caused some disruption and concern, especially with a school nearby, and would like to reassure the community that the school was only advised to keep the children inside as a precaution.

"There was no wider threat. No one was injured in the incident. "
