FASCINATING to read that the election hustings about the future of Taunton included two Conservatives on the panel.
One was the council leader, John Williams, the other a senior fellow-Conservative, Roger Habgood, who made it clear that he had no confidence in his leader's management of the council and was making a leadership bid.
Earlier this year, Cllr Habgood wrote in the County Gazette, “Tauntonians are crying out for change. Many believe the town is slipping slowly but surely in a downward spiral”.

Meanwhile, other Conservative councillors have given up on their party after a decade of waste and neglect and are standing as independents.
So if the Conservatives win the election, they will plunge straight into a civil war, much like the Conservative government.
We will have a country in chaos and a local council starting its life in chaos.
