PARENTS will follow in the footsteps of young people by staging a protest calling for action to combat climate change in Taunton.

The Taunton Green Parents group is staging an event as part of demonstrations organised by the Mothers Rise Up movement on May 12.

They are urging parents concerned about the environment to gather for a march through the town centre.

A spokesperson for Taunton Green Parents said: "We came together out of a shared desire to build a better future for our children and future generations.

"On May 12 we are organising a peaceful child friendly March in solidarity with the Mothers Rise Up movement. Mothers Rise Up is an international movement led by mothers demanding drastic action to prevent catastrophic climate breakdown and protect our children’s future.

"We are connected by love for our children and resolution to act. As in nature, there is nothing more powerful than a mother’s instinct to protect her child.

"We stand behind the science and in complete solidarity with the youth climate strikes, but we cannot leave it to children to tackle a crisis that previous generations have created. As parents and citizens, we can and must use our voice, our votes and collective power to demand action."

Protestors will meet noon on International Mother’s Day, May 12, outside of Clarks, in Taunton High Street, and people are encouraged to bring something to make some noise.
