LORD'S was subject to a Westcountry invasion on Saturday as Somerset supporters savoured the county's first major silverware since 2005.

Ten coaches travelled up from the Cooper Associates County Ground at the crack of dawn and they were joined by those who had made their own way, be it from the south west or around the country, to support their team.

These are supporters who have become accustomed to heartache in finals and the mood was one of cautious optimism before the game.

By the interval that optimism was growing, Somerset having restricted Hampshire to 244-8, and from the moment Tom Banton struck the first boundary of the run chase the noise was non-stop from the Edrich and Mound Stands.

'Somerset, La La La' rung out around the home of cricket and the bar behind the media centre ran out of cider as victory neared.

There were then supporters in tears of joy on their way out of the ground once victory was complete - a long, emotional and thoroughly enjoyable day for those Somerset supporters.

Man of the match Jamie Overton, who took 3-48, said: "The support is incredible.

"An hour after we beat Notts in the semi-final, 2,000 tickets were sold, which just shows the support we have as a club.

"Today, they were incredible. They were singing all day, never went quiet, and they are our 12th man which means a lot to us.

"They keep you going. There was a little period where we went a bit flat but they kept us going.

"Hopefully this is the start of something really good."
