THE south west office of national charity, Diabetes UK, held its annual Inspire Awards ceremony at the Castle Hotel, Taunton.

Awards were presented to individuals and groups from all over the region to celebrate their hard work in volunteering for the charity.

Among the winners were Sandra Tweddell, who was honoured with Volunteer of the Year for her tireless support and advocacy for people with diabetes in Bristol. There was also 13-year-old Rosey Edwardes, who picked up Young Person’s Outstanding Contribution. Rosey, from Dorset, played a key role in Diabetes UK’s campaign for access to a life-changing glucose monitor.

Other awards were presented for fundraising, campaigning and influencing, reaching out and connecting, supporting others, supporting Diabetes UK, local and community group, and long service.

Phaedra Perry, Diabetes UK South West Regional Head, said: “Our Inspire Awards are the perfect opportunity to thank our amazing volunteers for their dedication and creativity. It is only with their help that we are able to work towards a world where diabetes can do no harm.”
