SHOPPERS can pick up a few bargains in a Taunton supermarket when it re-opens next week following a £550,000 revamp.

Customers will find a new-look store when the Co-op, in Cheddon Road, starts trading again.

The doors will open next Thursday (June 6) for the first time since Saturday, May 18 - customers during the closure have been re-directed to the company's nearest store in nearby Priorswood Place.

Store manager Matt Charlton said: "We are delighted to be undertaking such a significant investment in Taunton and we’re confident that the improvements will help us to better serve the community.

"It’s an exciting time for the whole team."

As well as the usual groceries, the revamped store will have a Costa coffee machine, in-store bakery and Amazon lockers.

The Co-op is promising offers and promotions around the store to mark the launch, while the retailer has unveiled a price investment programme "to cut the cost of everyday essentials" such as fruit and veg, bread, fresh meat and ready meals.

Nick Crocker, area manager, said: "The Co-op is moving forward with a clear purpose and momentum. Our ambition is to ensure the store is a local hub, a real asset for the community.

"We also want shoppers to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op.

"Our members make a difference locally and simply by swiping their membership card when they shop with us they are raising much needed funding for organisations in their area who contribute to improving local life."
