A TALENTED 11-year-old has taken on a charity 'golf marathon' challenge.

Freddie Eglin completed 72 holes of golf, - four rounds, which is the equivalent to walking a marathon at Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club on Sunday (June 23).

The dedicated youngster hoped to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research - a charity close to his heart after his aunt was diagnosed.

Thankfully his aunt is well again, and Freddie more than doubled his £1,000 target.

The challenge took around 12 hours to complete.

He said: "I would just like to say thank you. I decided at the end of last year, after my Aunty Lynne was diagnosed with cancer to raise money for Cancer Research.

"72 holes in a day was the idea I came up with.

"Thank you to Taunton and Pickeridge’ junior section and organisers for walking and playing the last few holes with me to help me across the line, mum and dad for fundraising help but most importantly, to everyone who donated so generously. "I’m blown away to have smashed my original target of £1,000 by doubling it!!!

"Who knows, maybe I'll do 90 holes next time, I think my legs will have recovered by then."
