AT least ten fire service vehicles were called to a factory fire in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).

A fire crew from Williton was mobilised following a report of an automatic fire alarm sounding in the premises in Roughmoor, Williton, at 3.15am

After a thorough investigation of the building, firefighters discovered a fire in the main commercial area and the officer in charge requested seven further fire engines plus support vehicles.

Fire engines were sent from Williton, Minehead, Nether Stowey, Bridgwater and Taunton, along with the aerial ladder platform from Taunton, incident command vehicle from Wiveliscombe and the welfare vehicle from Burnham-on-Sea.

The fire was out by 4.14am, when crews used thermal imaging cameras to check for fire spread in the 50-metre by 100-metre building.

The fire had been located in the ground floor and involved an industrial fridge.

Crews stripped internal walls and ceiling linings to check for fire spread and the aerial ladder platform was prepared for use as a precaution.
