A DOG owner reckons someone is trying to poison pooches by leaving raising scattered around a favourite canine walker haunt.

Chris, who doesn't want his surname published, said: "Down by the fields of Netherclay - between Norton Fitzwarren and Bishop's Hull - a fellow dog walker found someone had scattered raisins around the foot of the railway bridge on the fields' end.

"Raisins are poisonous to dogs, as it can affect their kidneys, and so it seems a rather unpleasant person has done this to target dogs."

Grape and raisin - dried grapes - toxicity is well-documented in dogs.

Although the exact substance that causes the toxic reaction is not yet known, dogs should not eat grapes and raisins because even small amounts can prove to be fatally toxic for them.

The most serious complication is the fruits can cause severe damage to kidneys leading to acute renal failure due to lack of urine production.
