DULVERTON provided a fitting two day tribute last weekend to the year-long Exmoor wide celebration of the 150th anniversary of the publication of Lorna Doone by R D Blackmore.
Organised by Dulverton Town Council and Dulverton Traders’ Association, visitors to Exmoor Lawns enjoyed Taunton Garrison’s depiction of some of the events from the novel throughout each day, including loud gunfire from the Somerset Militia’s attack on the Doones, plus the tragic shooting of Lorna at her wedding to John Ridd.
The highlight on Sunday was the open-air Doone Feast provided by local caterers Croft and Cottage which included feral hog.
Live music from Devonbird, Castletown Band, The Blooming Flute Choir, Arwen Lewis and Tom Winsborough added to the atmosphere, while children found plenty to do with exciting activities by Wild Wellies.
