THE future of Taunton's town centre Post Office is still uncertain as a permanent home has not yet been found.

Iconic shop The County Stores previously housed the Post Office, but after it closed in January earlier this year, fears emerged the town centre would be without the vital service.

The Post Office was originally scheduled to close with County Stores, but it was able to stay open until March 29. It quickly reopened in the same premises under a temporary postmaster in April, where it remains open, but a permanent location is still being sought.

A Post Office spokesperson, said: “Taunton Post Office is open as normal at the former County Stores. It is being operated by a temporary Postmaster.

“We understand how important a Post Office is to a community and we would like to reassure customers that we are working hard to find a permanent solution.

"Any retailer or small business owner interested in running the Post Office and incorporating it into their business should visit www.runapostoffice.co.uk or email ND.enquiries@postoffice.co.uk or phone 0333 345 5560, then select option 2.”
