A NEW pub is set to open its doors this weekend after a £470,000 investment.

The Cricketers will open at the former home of The Bierkeller on August 3, creating 11 new jobs.

The pub, from Stonegate, which also looks after well-known names such as The Slug and Lettuce and Walkabout, prides itself on having ‘something for everyone’.

The Bierkeller closed earlier this year, leaving many regulars sad to see it go.

But a replacement was found quickly as Stonegate purchased the building.

Brand-new TVs have been installed to ensure viewing any sporting event is a great experience at The Cricketers, starting with the Ashes. Guests can watch all the action live, pint in hand, either at the main bar or in one of the bookable booths with individual screens.

The venue has been completely transformed and now features a homely feel, with comfy dining seats and artwork on the walls.

The Cricketers will welcome a brand-new menu, which alongside cask and real ales and guest ciders that include Lilley’s and Sheppy’s, customers can ‘get in the spirit’ with a selection of gins, dark rums and vodkas including Hendrick’s Summer Solstice, Beefeater Blood Orange and Verano Watermelon gin. There are also party bowls and a selection of cocktails including the famous Pornstar Martini, classic Singapore Sling and a refreshing Mojito. Low and no-alcohol choices have also been added, including Gordon’s Ultra Low G&T and Cedar’s 0 per cent gin.

When it comes to food, locals can look forward to more pub classics, as well as vegan and vegetarian delights.

Marie James, general manager of The Cricketers, said: “With a new name comes a whole new look and we’re excited to reveal the transformation to the people of Taunton.

“Whether it’s a daytime pint to watch the cricket or coming to enjoy a family Sunday roast, The Cricketers will be a warm and welcoming pub that the whole community can enjoy.”

The pub will also host a regular schedule of live music and will have a DJ every Saturday and Sunday nights.

Opening times will be from 9am until 11pm on Monday through to Thursdays, 9am until 2am on Friday and Saturday, and 9am until 11 on Sunday.

The grand opening is set to take place from 5pm, with band Filta playing later in the evening.
