A NEWLY reopened children's play area has quickly closed down again.

Wellington's Play Castle has closed under mysterious circumstances at the beginning of August.

The attraction, on Castle Road, only reopened under new management at the beginning of July. A sign was placed in the window of the building from civil enforcement service Ross and Roberts, stating the building had been secured on behalf of the landlords.

The landlord did not wish to comment.

The Facebook page for the venue has also been removed.

The Play Castle offered a range of entertainment services, including a holiday camp, which was not believed to have been Ofsted registered.

No official reason for the closure has been announced.

Other activity centres in the area have been quick to react in order to keep the children from being disappointed.

A spokesperson for AJz Activity Centre, on Frobisher Way, said: "We are sorry to hear of the closure of the Play Castle in Wellington.

"If you have a Summer Pass for the Play Castle we are happy to exchange it for an AJz summer pass expiring on September 1.

"Just bring your pass with you to reception.

"Please note we are in no way associated/connected with the Play Castle."

MADHouse, on Galmington Enterprise Park, has also offered a similar exchange.

A spokesperson said: "We are extremely saddened to hear what has happened and like AJz, would like to honour all summer passes that were purchased through the Play Castle.

"These will be valid until September 1, please bring them to present when coming to the MADhouse.

"We also will try to help in anyway with any future parties already booked, with up to 50 per cent off parties to help any money lost for parents (not private parties).

"Please note we are in no way associated/connected with the Play Castle."

Avon and Somerset Police say they are looking into the circumstances surrounding the closure, although no details have been given.

A spokesperson said: “We are aware of the allegations and police enquiries are continuing.”
