Still I Rise with TRIBE// at The Tacchi Morris Arts Centre

TRIBE// are a new UK company creating visceral, raw and punchy dance. The movement is driven by emotive work, from a bold new choreographic voice Victoria Fox.

Still I Rise is a call to arms performed by an all-female cast. Raw and visceral, Still I Rise is danced with full bodied urgency and gutsy power, combined with choreographer Victoria Fox’s emotive and articulate movement style to create a fragile world of simmering tensions and unrest.

The work channels the resilient, unapologetic nature of the iconic poem by Maya Angelou. An unflinching relentless hope for the human spirit runs through this dance work.

Cinematic sounds from pounding beats to stirring classical arias, drives the journey onwards. Falling down, gathering up… we rise.

Choreographer Victoria Fox strives to create performances that are relevant to her audience by being both socially aware and astute, creating movement that speaks and connects, drawing from her 19 years professional experience as a dancer, with international and world renowned companies.

Victoria is the recipient of Tony Savva Fund form Swindon Dance and a Discovery Artist at Pavilion Dance South West. She has a reputation as a dancer with companies such as Jasmin Vardimon Company, CandoCo Dance Company, The British Paraorchestra and Silesian Dance Theatre Poland.

She has also performed in the UK and internationally.

Victoria said: “I have a desire to see female dancers really owning the stage, to take the space. Raw and physical, subtle and extreme, I want to see women enable each other and represent the full range of their strengths, virtuosic to vulnerable, the realities in which we live and the journey we continue.”

Still I Rise will be coming to the Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre on Tuesday, September 24 at 7:30pm.
