THOUSANDS of people visited the annual steam rally in Norton Fitzwarren.

The event, organised by the West Somerset Railway Association, took place at the weekend (August 3 and 4).

The vintage and steam rally sees hundreds of vehicles and exhibitions put on display across the site, while visitors explore the history of the engines.

Diane Charlton, one of the committee members, said: "It was very successful and the weather was kind to us.

"We don't have exact figures yet but we had thousands of people visit us.

"We were at capacity for exhibitors, too.

"Everyone had a lot of fun".

This year free transport was provided, as visitors could catch a vintage bus to the event, or catch the train from Taunton Railway Station and depart at Norton Fitzwarren as part of the GWR trial shuttle to Bishops Lydeard.

Mrs Charlton added: "The transport was very successful.

"We were quite proud of that actually because although it was only a small thing, it took traffic off the roads and it started people's days off in a lovely way."

There's little rest for the team as the clear up takes a few days, and then they have a few weeks off before starting to plan next year's event in September.
