GOLFERS got into the swing of it to raise £4,225 for Somerset charity We Hear You at Somerset Chamber of Commerce’s annual Charity Golf Day, which this year was held at Enmore Park Golf Club near Bridgwater.

Teams of four made the most of the summer sunshine to tackle the course before enjoying a two-course dinner, presentations, plus a charity raffle and auction, with prizes generously donated by local businesses.

These included a Mulberry handbag and an overnight stay at The Castle Hotel in Taunton and a meal in Brazz. Insurance brokers Jelf were the main sponsors of the event, while Atlas Safety Management, of Wellington, sponsored the winning team and PF Cusack, of Highbridge, sponsored the runners-up.

We Hear You (WHY) is based in Frome and works across Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset and Wiltshire, providing free professional counselling to patients, families, friends, carers and colleagues who are affected or bereaved by cancer or any life-threatening condition.

Stephen Henagulph, chief executive of Somerset Chamber of Commerce, said: “The weather was perfect for a great day of informal networking alongside a relaxed round of golf.

"The aim was for our members to have fun while raising money for local charity We Hear You.

“With the help of our sponsors and the generous donations we received for our fundraising raffle and auction, I’m thrilled we were able to raise £4,225 to support the valuable work of We Hear You.

“A big thank you to the team at Enmore Golf Club for making the day so enjoyable and to everyone who came along on the day or supported this hugely successful charity event.”

Gemma Wilkes, We Hear You fundraising manager, said: “We were absolutely delighted to have been chosen as Somerset Chamber’s golf day charity.

"The proceeds from the day will fund 96 counselling sessions for local families affected by cancer or a life-threatening condition."
