SOUTH Somerset potato supplier Branston has raised an impressive £1,157 for its charity of the year, St Margaret’s Hospice Care, having completed a 300-mile walk around a local village.

Staff spent five days trekking around Seavington St Michael, to raise cash for the chosen group.

The hospice has been at the heart of Somerset’s community for nearly 40 years, delivering high quality, responsive and compassionate care to patients facing life-limiting illnesses, as well as their families.

Vikki Mckenna, site HR manager at Branston said: “We wanted to support a cause that was close to our site location in Ilminster for 2019’s charity of the year, as it’s important to support the local community of our staff and their families.

“We’re delighted to be working with St Margaret’s Hospice, as it’s essential that the hospice is supported so that they can provide the excellent levels of healthcare to our community.”

The Branston team also litter picked along the way.

Victoria Poole, area fundraising manager at St Margaret’s, said: “We are very grateful to have been chosen by Branston as charity of the year. In order to keep the hospice running we must raise £26,000 a day and we simply couldn’t do it without support.”
