The RSPB West Sedgemoor nature reserve is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to share the joy of wildlife by becoming a member of the guided walks team this winter.

Access to RSPB West Sedgemoor is only by guided walk.

Selected volunteers would be responsible for leading people through the reserve and offering key insight into the fantastic creatures that call the reserve home.

Abbie Thorne, visitor experience manager, said: “We are looking for people who are passionate about sharing wildlife experiences and their knowledge with others to become volunteer guided walks leaders at our RSPB West Sedgemoor nature reserve.”

RSPB West Sedgemoor is home to the largest lowland population of breeding wading birds such as lapwing, snipe, curlew and redshank in Southwest England as well as home to many of the re-introduced cranes.

In winter, the wet meadows attract tens of thousands of wetland birds – ducks such as widgeon, teal, shoveler, pintail and mallard and wading bird such as golden plovers, snipe and lapwing.

Abbie continued: “We are looking for volunteers who are available on weekdays during the winter season from November to February to join the guided walks team sharing the story of RSPB West Sedgemoor and showing walk participants the fantastic wildlife spectacle the reserve has to offer in the winter months.”
