BURNHAM and Highbridge Town Council has this week agreed the key objectives of its corporate plan which aims to help make the two towns a better place to live, work and visit.

At a meeting on Monday (September 2) councillors voted for the six strategic pillars for 2019 to 2023.

The six pillars are:

  • Engagement, Visibility and Transparency
  • Culture and Community
  • Economic Development and Tourism
  • Healthy and Safe Environment
  • Clean and Green Environment
  • Effective and Efficient use of resources.

Speaking at the meeting Cllr Phil Harvey, said: "I think what we have got here is a good start as long as we make sure it is just a start.

"I think if we had a list of action points inside this plan it would help but I appreciate that will take some time to do that."

The town council said a number of strategic projects are being discussed to support the strategic pillars and these will form the direction of the town council.

A detailed corporate plan is expected to be published by the end of the year.

Speaking after the meeting, Cllr Andy Brewer, chairman of Burnham and Highbridge Town Council, said: "We recognise that achieving the aims of the plan will be a gradual process and a significant commitment in terms of councillor and officer time as well as requiring financial input.

"However, this council firmly believes that by working together, with the support of the community, we can make a difference for the good of our towns."
