THE funfair returned to town for the first time in 20 years.

Danters Funfair set up in Minehead after the town council organised to bring fun and games to the area once again.

Hundreds of people attended the event, which saw rides, food stalls and entertainment lined Alcombe Marsh Common from September 4 - 7.

The town councillors said there was ‘something for everyone’ as they saw many people, families and children enjoying themselves.

Cllr Toni Bloomfield said: “I would like to say thanks to Cllr Beresford Mandley who started this off a few years ago with a simple post on Facebook.

“And thank you to Michael Grace, a local handy man who put us in touch with Leigh Danter.

“Thank you to everyone on the Minehead Town Council for the support in making this happen and especially deputy mayor Cllr Paul Bolton on all your help and advice.

“A very big thank you to Leigh Danter and the rest of the showmen on taking the risk and coming to Minehead.

“And last but not least every one who came and supported the funfair, it was so amazing seeing all the happy faces and the community really coming together.

“I had a blast every night taking the children down and seeing there excitement over the whole event.”

Cllr Bloomfield also organised for children from Cheeky Cherubs Day Nursery in Minehead to visit the fair and go on a few of the rides for free.

Showman Leigh Danter said he and his team would be excited to return next year.

He said: “We just wanted to give some special thanks to Michael Beverley Grace, Beresford Mandley, Toni Bloomfield and Minehead Town Council for all their support and dedication in helping bring the fun fair to Minehead.

“Without you it wouldn’t have been possible.

“But most of all a huge thank you to all the thrill seekers and local residents who paid us a visit.

“The support and kind feedback means allot to us.

“We’ve received loads of pictures, messages and updates which we are working our way through.

“Seeing you all enjoy yourself on our fair makes the job worth doing.

“We’d be thrilled to comeback and do all again.”
