AN ELDERLY woman remains in a 'serious condition' following a crash on the A38 in West Huntspill.

Emergency services were called to Bristol Road at around 12.05pm on Wednesday (September 11) following reports of a single-vehicle collision.

Bristol Road was closed for a number of hours while police collision investigators were at the scene.

Traffic in Highbridge and Bridgwater was affected and there was a diversion in place via J22 and 23 of the M5.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset has confirmed elderly woman's Fiat 500c was in collision with a wall and she remains in hospital in a 'serious condition'.

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 12.05pm on Wednesday, September 11 to reports of a road traffic collision, reportedly involving one vehicle.

"We attended with HART (hazardous area response team), a rapid response vehicle, a doctor, an operations officer and an ambulance.

"One patient was taken to hospital for further treatment."
