FIVE care homes in Warrington run by the same company have all been rated good by the health watchdog - a year after they were ordered to improve.

U&I Care Limited’s Field View, Charlotte House, Oak View, Archers Green Road and Burton House - care homes for adults with learning difficulties and autism - have all been praised by the Care Quality Commission following unannounced inspections in May.

Inspectors found that the small homes had improved significantly in all areas.

The report stated how in Oak View, staff are discouraged from wearing uniforms that would identify it as a care facility while they supported people.

People were supported to have 'maximum choice and control of their lives' and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests.

Thorough recruitment and staff induction was in place to ensure staff were suitable to work and provide support within the homes.

Care and support was delivered on an individual basis and the people decided their daily routines. People were encouraged to participate in activities which were meaningful to them and given opportunities to experience new activities.

To avoid social isolation, people attended community events, social clubs and discos.

Staff were aware of verbal triggers and responses that would demonstrate if people were feeling anxious.

Inspectors also found that staff supported people to make their needs and wishes known, and what worked best to ensure they had a good day.

Issues raised in the previous inspections had been addressed and resolved and resident's responses and interactions demonstrated they felt comfortable with the staff members supporting them.

The service also worked hard to promote inclusivity and people’s diversity was embraced, staff demonstrated this with their knowledge of how people communicated.
