A MOTORCYCLIST has died after a crash in the Hook area last night.

The man was involved in a crash with a silver vehicle which failed to stop at the scene.

The incident happened last night at 10.30pm on the B3349 Reading Road junction with Vicarage Lane in Houndgreen. 

Hampshire Police is appealing for the driver of the car to come forward after the incident. 

The constabulary posted an appeal for witnesses last night and updated the news at 1.30am to say sadly the motorcyclist had passed away.

A police car was on the scene on Wednesday morning, and debris was visible on the road.

Officers were knocking on doors and speaking to witnesses, with one telling the Gazette that she heard the screeching of brakes and the crash at around 10.30pm, but did not see the incident take place.

Another said the news was "awful".

A spokesman for Hampshire Police said: "A silver vehicle was in collision with a motorcycle. The driver of the silver vehicle failed to stop at the scene.

"We’re appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicle make off from the area, to get in touch.

"The silver vehicle has been damaged as a result of the collision and we would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a damaged silver vehicle in the area."

The spokesman added later: "The motorcyclist has died as a result of his injuries.

"We continue to appeal for information to help trace the driver of the silver vehicle and also appeal to this driver to come forward and speak to us."
