PEOPLE are being urged to leave their homes and workplaces to protest for action on climate change.

Around the world, Earth Strike protests are being held, led by young people.

And in Taunton, groups including YouthStrike4Climate and Extinction Rebellion, are uniting for the Earth Strike.

A spokesperson for the demonstration said: "Our climate is in breakdown – our children’s futures and very lives hang in the balance.

"This is an emergency – stand in solidarity with school strikers on the first General Strike in the UK since 1926; where millions of adults will walk out of their workplaces to join the youth.

"For our children’s sakes and the future on all life on earth – join us and Earth Strike on Friday September 20.

"We’ve even managed to get our own samba band to march with us.

"Bring your family, friends, banners and noise makers. Come prepared to make some noise as we march through Taunton with the youth who have been striking since February.

"This is easily going to be the biggest day of climate action in human history. Whether you are student, adult, retired or anyone else – join us."

The protest comes after numerous demonstrations over climate change in the county town in recent months.

In April, hundreds of people joined a demonstration organised by Extinction Rebellion, and in May, another protest, led by the Mothers Rise Up group, saw people take to the streets of Taunton.
