THE mystery of why a former Taunton pub was called The Light Bob has been revealed.
The pub used to be a popular venue in High Street until it closed several years ago.
The landlady up until its closure was Mrs Kennard, who now lives in Dorset.
She has fond memories of her time behind the bar, but she has always wondered where the pub got its name from.
All can now be revealed thanks to Taunton man Keith Grimes.
He told us it was in honour of Major General Sir Robert Henry Slade (1782-1845), commandant of the 13th Light Infantry, later the Somerset Light Infantry and nicknamed by his troops 'Fighting Bob'.
Keith, who served with the SLI himself from 1957-1960, says he never entered the Light Bob, but is pleased to help Mrs Kennard.
