A SCHOOL in Taunton has unveiled plans for a new sixth form building.

King's College has applied for planning permission to demolish the existing drama studio and to replace it with a two-storey centre to improve its further education facilities for 16 to 18-year-old students.

A statement with the application for the South Road college says: "The proposed building is intended for use as a base and home for sixth

form students.

"A place that will support most of their lessons, give them access to a dedicated library, informal study spaces and a common room/canteen."

The scheme will include a reception foyer with student cafe and performance space; career enterprise centre; six multi-functioning classrooms/event rooms; staff offices; library; informal learning spaces; WCs, disabled WC and showers.

The building will feature a colonnaded walkway supporting an overhanging first floor.

There will also be timber and metal clad elements to break up the form and to reduce the overall scale and impact of the building.
