A 'HUGE' Christmas market, Father Christmas, live entertainment and a 'special guest' will be among the festivities in Taunton this year.

Details have been released for this year's WinterFest, which is supported by Somerset West and Taunton Council.

The event is set to take place on Sunday, November 24, from 10am until 8pm, and Father Christmas will be in attendance in Santa's Grotto.

The town's Christmas lights will be switched on at 6.30pm that evening.

A spokesperson for WinterFest said: "We're counting down the days to this year's, Taunton's WinterFest event and have we got an event in store for you.

"Not only can we promise some of the UK's biggest and best fun fair rides and attractions, we have a glittering line up of locally sourced entertainment playing live on the main stage, from noon through until 8pm, with a very special guest appearance for the light switch on at 6:30pm.

"With the kind help of our friends from the Living Light Christian Church, there will be live music and entertainment on The Christmas Stage set up at the end of the High Street.

"The Farmers Market will be in their usual location on the day, and for those with a keen eye for a festive bargain, there will be a huge Christmas Market set up in North Street in support of this amazing family fun event."

Father Christmas will be in his grotto which will be set up outside of the visitor centre.

Unique Events SW CIC will also be running music workshops throughout the afternoon on Castle Green.

Plans have also been revealed for a real ice skating rink which is set to go on Castle Green throughout December.
