PROTESTERS marched a funeral procession through Taunton town centre as part of the latest Extinction rebellion to hit the streets of Somerset.

The event was dubbed a 'Funeral March for the Earth', and started at around noon on the High Street.

Ahead of the event, a spokesman for Taunton's Extinction Rebellion branch said: "Thousands of peace-loving people, old and young, are protesting in London and other cities (and in many, many other countries) at the moment becuase theya re desperately worried about the harm that climate change is causing.

"Scientists from the United Nations, the British Met Office, the World Wildlife Fund and many others keep telling us that our children and grandchildren are facing a climate catastrophe, with droughts, storms, floods and sea level rise.

"Also, species are disappearing and our wildlife is threatened.

"Our lives depend on them.

"Most council in Britain have declared a climate emergency, but too little is happening and progress is too slow.

"The climate is still heating up.

"We all need to do our bit, but the reason we are here today is to try to persuade our government to take rapid and drastic action now so that dangerous greenhouses gases are cut back.

"Please contact your MP or local councillors to tell them you're worried about the future."
